Vintage Italian Citrine & Diamond Bombé Ring in 18k Yellow Gold, c.1970s

£2,450.00

A fabulous piece of 1970s Italian glamour — big, bold and beautifully made.

Crafted in substantial 18k yellow gold, this striking vintage bombé ring is set with 18 oval-cut citrines, arranged in graduated rows across its broad, gently domed face. Their rich golden-orange tones sit beautifully against the warmth of the yellow gold, while 14 brilliant-cut diamonds are scattered between the citrines, adding flashes of crisp white brilliance.

The citrines are individually estimated at approximately 0.40–0.50ct, giving an estimated combined weight of approximately 8.00ct, while the fourteen diamonds are estimated at approximately 0.05ct each — 0.70ct in total.

It’s the construction that really makes this ring. Rather than simply setting a single large stone onto a conventional shank, the gemstones form part of the architecture of the ring itself, creating a wonderfully sculptural, almost mosaic-like surface. From the side, the broad polished gold shoulders sweep upwards into the gemstone-set centre, giving it that unmistakably glamorous Italian bombé silhouette.

Weighing just over 14.5 grams, there is a reassuring substance to the piece when worn — this is most definitely a proper cocktail ring.

The ring bears Italian hallmarks together with the 750 mark for 18k gold. Its design and construction are consistent with Italian jewellery of the 1970s, a period renowned for wonderfully confident, colourful and highly wearable gold jewellery. Comparable Italian bombé rings from the period are likewise characterised by substantial gold construction and dramatic domed forms.
